Staying Happy
College can be a bit lonely at times; having time for relaxation and socializing, especially if you work as well as study, can seem impossible to achieve. Trust me, I know--I spent far too many days and nights stressed and alone during my college years. Here are some ways you can keep yourself afloat!
(Important note: if you are suffering depression and anxiety, then these frank self-care tips from my depression site will help you more than the list below.
For Introverts
- Make single-serving desserts or other single-serving comfort food.
- Set aside daily hobby time--you can even research a new one!
- If your college's library has individual closed-in study booths, use them for solitude.
- Seek out green spaces in the community, like parks or walking trails, for some exercise and alone time.
For Extroverts
- Join groups of people who are in your major. Ready-made study friend group!
- Make friends with dormmates/neighbors. Bring a gift of food and you'll be an instant buddy!
- Go to class a little early to meet potential new friends.
- Go to arts shows and/or sporting events on-campus as much as possible.
For Ambiverts
- Work on a hobby in the common areas of your dorm or apartment complex; others might take an interest!
- Make non-face-to-face contact with at least one friend every day.
- Join a community group activity, such as a painting class, a singing group, etc.
- Seek out desks with carrolls in the library or other study spaces for some privacy.
