About Webmistress
who I am
Hello! I am Robin, and I am a 25-year-old girl living in North Carolina, USA. I love to write, as you can see, and I generally like to communicate with people. I am patient at times (often more accurately called "stubborn"), but I get easily frustrated when I can't understand something or something isn't working the way it's supposed to. I can also be fairly off-the-wall and creative, coming up with stuff most people wouldn't think of, and I don't mind being that way if it makes other people happy or makes them laugh. I also have a nurturing side to my personality as well. I love being depended on and taking care of others' needs--there's a reason I carry bandages and first-aid spray in my purse (though usually I'm taking care of my accident-prone self :P ). One could say I'm a complicated personality to work out, but most of my traits are based on making others happy; if I can't make them laugh, can't meet their needs, and can't do anything right for them, I'm going to be a fairly unhappy little bird. I'm a pleaser, what can I say? :D
turn back a page or two of history
After graduating from high school in 2003, I studied American and British literary works, as well as theories and practices of composition, during the four years of my undergraduate degree work at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English in May 2007, and in August of 2007, I went back to UNCG to start a Masters degree program in Middle-Grades Education. I completed all of the educational theory courses I needed, but sadly, in February of 2009, I had to leave the program after six weeks of being a full-time student teacher. Emotional and mental stress did me in, and I realized that teaching was sucking the life out of me, leaving me no time to recreate myself, and making me into a mockery of the kind of teacher I started out to be. I left Greensboro soon after, and officially moved back to my hometown in May of 2009. Now, I am looking for a new career and new meaning out of life, and determining where I fit in this great mosaic we call "life" is harder than it looks.
current sites and activities
Online, I am an avid listener on Last.fm, an active bookmarker on Delicious, and sufficiently low-key enough everywhere else. All of my currently active subsites have to do with gaming in some fashion, whether it be an MMORPG like City of Heroes, or more traditional cards and miniatures gaming like Magic: the Gathering, HeroClix, and Star Wars Miniatures.
Speaking of such activities, you can usually find me playing City of Heroes with my boyfriend (more about him below) on the weekends, and during the week I'm usually watching public television, designing websites, and reading fantasy and science-fiction novels. I also enjoy many creative pursuits; I play the piano, compose music, sing (usually alto), and write poetry and short fiction. I am currently active in a Southern Baptist church near my home, attending with my boyfriend and his family, and I sing in the choir and teach the adult women's Sunday School class.
but the greatest of these is love
Offline, I have a wonderful boyfriend of nearly two years, who teaches English literature and composition at our local community college. He was an invaluable support to me during the sorrow and anguish that was my teacher training, and continues to be both my best friend and the love and light in my life when I am losing myself in randomness. He is stable and dependable when I need it most; he has the kind of faith that I can only wonder at. Brilliant and humble in the same moment, he's that dose of reality and love that I always knew I needed and despaired of finding. Then, God said, "Surprise!"
